"Of course I wanted the movie to be as true to the book as possible. But the moviemakers had to make the film appeal to a broader audience, telling the story of general manager Billy Beane and his Oakland Athletics with a narrative that engages not only the die-hard baseball fan but also the casual moviegoer."
